Hello, my name is Vanessa Elias. I am a second year history graduate student. I do not have an official primary field of focus, but I am definitely leaning towards Twentieth-Century U.S. popular culture. I am fascinated with cultural trends and shifts that occurred because of political or economic conditions. My career goal is to become a secondary school history teacher, and I am presently applying to the CSUN Credential Program. I look forward to meeting and working with all of you. This is my second year in graduate school, having taught six years of high school history, government and coaching cross country. I was the best kid on our street at Kick the Can!!! :)) I firmly believe that history is best learned by experiencing it!! I'm a runner and cyclist who traded diamonds for the spirit of the past. I remember when the La Reina showed triple James Bond features. My wish is to help students learn the connection between Thomas Jefferson and Bob Dylan. And, understanding the love you take will be equal to the love you made.

Students should bring their text books to meetings and a copy of any primary reading you would like to use for writing topics.

I am a graduate student with interest in history of the American West, Women's history, and California history. I earned my undergraduate degree from CSUN and am in my second year of the M.A. program.

I started at Pierce College in 2007, and graduated from UCLA in 2011. (Did not start college until my daughter had already graduated from CSUN). Prior to college I worked as a general contractor, carpenter, ironworker, even worked on a commercial fishing boat before I got married 30 years ago. Throughout all the years I worked as a construction worker and contractor, I never stopped reading history books. Now at a time when most people my age are staring to prepare for retirement, I'm preparing to start a new career teaching history.
